Transcription
Wordsmith can transcribe from mini-cassette (Philips Mini Cassette 005 and compatible) and digital files in the following formats: aiff, dct, mp3, ogg, vox, wav and wma.

On average, it takes around 4 – 6 hours to transcribe one hour of recorded speech, depending on the standard and clarity of the recording.  Over and above this, time should be taken into account for proofreading the transcription to ensure the quality of spelling etc. As a general rule, I allow the length of the recording time for proofreading and amending the transcription.

Wordsmith offers three levels of transcription as standard:

  1. Full transcription: This is a word-for-word transcription which includes every ‘err…’, ‘ummm…’ and cough that is uttered.
  2. Standard transcription: Word-for-word transcription but without the other utterances.
  3. Rough transcription: When word-for-word recording is not necessary, and only the important dialogue is required.

I am happy to discuss transcription requirements with clients who feel none of these options quite meet their needs.  Please contact me if you require any further information.
